10. U.S. v. American Tradition Partnership (2010)
The American Tradition Partnership was formed in May of 2011 as "a conservative, free-market grassroots organization" that was concerned about "the current anti-competitive environment and the corporate income tax." At time of this group's creation, the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois (ACLU Illinois) sued for the disclosure of its funders, but an appeals court ruled in their favor. The Court of Appeals for Seventh Circuit upheld an earlier decision by a district court that upheld the constitutionality of Freedom Information Act (FOIA), which requires public authorities to disclose information they hold on an individual or organization. The Court's ruling will be appealed to the Supreme Court.
